The Cannes Jeunesse Association wanted to interconnect the Mouré Rouge Sailing School network with Sainte-Marguerite Fort.
This would mean taking ADSL onto the island to ensure a permanent connection with the mainland and being able to share in-house software data via a VPN tunnel with the head office in the centre of Cannes.
After checking out the location and carrying out some on-site tests, we deployed a radio bridge coupled with long-range antennas which enabled a connection between the harbour and the island two kilometres away.
At the same time, we completed the internal network wiring of the fort.
From its implementation in 2004, this solution is still in operation and has only required the replacement of the transmitters by more powerful models.
At the time, this solution generated savings for the Cannes Jeunesse Association that ran into the thousands of euros since it would have been prohibitively expensive to install an underwater link. Today, a 4G solution with no speed limiter and no fair-use policy (unlimited bandwidth) would be desirable.
